Course Overview


The SIR30216 Certificate III in Retail provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in retail operations. Work would be undertaken in various retail store settings, such as specialty stores, supermarkets, department stores and retail fast food outlets.




Learning Outcomes


This course is designed to introduce you to the roles in a variety of retail settings. Students will learn effective sales techniques, creative merchandising, customer service and administrative and team leadership skills. This qualification will help to provide career opportunities within the retail sector. Planned learning outcomes include:

  • Working effectively in a service environment
  • Contributing to workplace health and safety
  • Building customer relationships and loyalty
  • Assisting with customer difficulties
  • Organising and maintaining the store environment
  • Receiving and handling retail stock
  • Balancing and securing the point of sale (POS) terminal




Entry Requirements


There are no pre-requisite entry requirements for this qualification. However, candidates must have a Unique Student Identifier and complete a LLN quiz upon entry.




Work Experience Requirements


Student must provide and wear appropriate professional clothing suitable to the retail industry whilst on work experience.

Delivery Options


Classroom Based

  • Three days a week (21 hours - Classroom)
  • Classroom location is Penrith CBD.
  • This course includes work experience that is arranged by Benchmark College.​
​Employment Based Traineeship
  • Delivered fully on the job with workplace monitoring and assessment visits conducted by a Benchmark trainer.
  • 12 months full time (part time traineeships also available, contact us for more information).
  • Location for the training is at the trainee's employer or host employer.

​School Based Traineeships
  • School-based Traineeships allow year 10, 11 and 12 high school students to commence or complete a traineeship.

Self-directed learning


As part of the qualification, students will be required to complete self-directed learning. In conjunction with the allocated trainer/assessor, students will be advised of the required readings/videos to view/or websites to research to enhance your learning of the subject (or unit) you are undertaking. Students will receive more information about this before commencing the course.




Assessment


A range of assessment methods are used to give you the opportunity to show your skills in the best way possible. Assessment research and activities are part of the course requirements. These may include but are not limited to:

  • Observation/demonstration.
