Course Overview
The nationally recognised Diploma of Children's Services CHC50908 will give you the qualifications required to work in child care centres as a child care educator or to further your education at university.
Putting theory into practice, you will discover how to look at the world from the perspective of child development and care giving. Using play and your understanding of how children develop, you will learn how to assess, plan and evaluate the care you provide children to develop their individual strengths and interests.

Entry Requirements
Successful completion of Year 10 (minimum) or equivalent; or 18 years of age or over and have work or other life experience. No ATAR is required.
UNIVERSITY PATHWAYS
Benchmark College has a guaranteed entry pathway for graduates from the Diploma of Children’s Services CHC50908 into the Bachelor of Education (0-5yrs) with the University of Western Sydney (UWS), Charles Sturt University and Macquarie University.
Other universities also accept this qualification as credit toward teaching degrees. Check with individual universities for further information.
Course Content
The Diploma of Children's Services CHC50908 is divided into three stages.
- Stage 1: Introduction to children’s services
- Stage 2: Programming and planning
- Stage 3: Management and partnerships

Work Placement
Work placement forms an important part of our program. With over 150 hours of work experience you will have extensive opportunities to practice newly learnt skills and apply your knowledge to a real work situation.
Work placement consists of:
- Individual field days – one day per week over the duration of the course.
- Block work placement – four weeks in total and completed at the end of each stage.
DELIVERY & Course Duration
Courses will commence in February and run through to December. Full-time study 4 days per week (3 days in class and 1 day in a centre). Class hours are 9am-3pm.
NO CLASSES ARE HELD DURING NSW SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.
The course is also offered through a blended delivery method including correspondence, eLearning and intensive workshops. Our blended approach may be suitable for those students who require a flexible delivery approach to when and where they learn. Average completion time is 18 months. Work placement requirements remain the same.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment will be conducted using a variety of methods which may include: observation, case studies and scenarios, written and/or verbal questioning, projects and portfolio development.
Fees
This course is VET FEE-HELP approved which allows eligible students to study now and pay later.

What is VET FEE-HELP?
VET FEE-HELP is a student loan scheme for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. VET FEE-HELP assists eligible students undertaking certain VET diploma level and above courses. It allows them to borrow funds up to their FEE-HELP limit to help pay for all or part of their VET tuition fees. Students who access VET FEE-HELP assistance will have a loan with the Australian Government who will, on the student’s behalf, pay their VET tuition fees to their approved VET provider.
